Joseph Morris Gallery was established in 1997 as a legacy gallery to represent the lineage of the American artists Stuart Yankell and Leon Bibel.  Painting and sculpting in San Francisco and New York from 1936 - 1990, Leon Bibel produced a diverse and profound body of work that has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums over the century.  His close friend Samuel Yankell, a research biochemist, developed a passion for painting and sculpture that would lead him to create a broad range of works and a mature style in his own right.  Stuart Yankell, Samuel’s second son and Leon’s godson, received the torch of influence and has gone on to incorporate a rich depth of classical training into this figurative and humanistic legacy.  Gathering strength from a timeless diversity, his work has been exhibited internationally since the mid 80’s and has become recognized for its unique and progressive vision.

As a legacy gallery, Joseph Morris was founded in the names of Stuart Yankell’s grandfathers and in recent years it has expanded to include the works of additional family members and colleagues in order to diversify the offerings in its portfolio. The gallery has worked extensively with public and private collectors and offers a full range of services including design consultation, portraiture, framing and installation.  The Joseph Morris Gallery has carved a unique niche in the art world offering collectors an understanding of the legacy of these profound voices in the language of art.
